DWR wants increase in antlerless permit

The mild winter may not have put down the snowpack, but it did make life easier on Utah's big game animals, which is both good and bad news.
The light winter means more animals survived, but it also means that in some areas of the state the animal population exceeds carrying capacity for the state's limited winter range.
This is reflected in the Division of Wildlife Resources' 2007 antlerless hunting recommendations for this fall.
Taking female animals is the main tool biologists have to keep big game animals from increasing past the number their habitat can sustain.
This year the DWR is asking for an increase in antlerless deer, elk and moose permits. Pronghorn antelope permits would decrease by about 250 permits.

Don't settle for light speed; take Safari to ludicrous speed

Being the default browser installed with an operating system has its advantages; just ask Internet Explorer on both the Mac and PC side. Yes, IE once shipped as the default choice for Mac users too, back in the dark days of OS 8/9. And it was fast, too, faster than anything else available at the time.

Today, Apple's browser of choice is Safari, based in part on the open source KHTML codebase and enhanced regularly through Apple's WebKit project. It's pretty fast, too, but not always. Sometimes, Safari can slow to a crawl depending on a variety of factors such as cache size or network congestion, or even how many tabs you have open at once. Sure, you could (and should!) switch to a better browser, but what if you don't want to?

MacFixit has an answer. Today's front page is devoted largely to a guide to speeding Safari back up, including some common and not-so-common fixes.

Kadhafi picks bone with colonisers of Africa

Dakar, Senegal 04/08 - Libyan leader, Col. Moammar Kadhafi, has flayed nations that colonised Africa, and accused them of plundering its resources only to leave the continent impoverished.

"Colonisation, while causing a haemorrhage of Africa`s natural resources including raw materials and marine products, caused huge losses to the African continent in terms of its productive labour force," Kadhafi said pointed out in Dakar on Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting with several personalities including writers, academics, executives of the ruling Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), researchers and Imams, Kadhafi said the colonisers tried to turn those they colonised into morons and deliberately kept them in backwardness and perceptual denial of their rights to integrate into modern life.

Porini Camps of Kenya Awarded Silver Eco-rating by Ecotourism Kenya

EVERGREEN, CO – Gamewatchers Safaris, a Nairobi-based safari company, is thrilled to announce that their Amboseli Porini Camp and Mara Porini Camps have both been awarded the Silver Eco-rating classification by Ecotourism Kenya. This is the first time Ecotourism Kenya has awarded Silver classification ratings, signifying a tourism facility that is moving towards excellence in the areas of environmental management, sustainable resource use and community linkages.

This Eco-rating Scheme is the first of its kind in Africa. The Eco-rating Scheme primarily works to formally evaluate the environmental performance of Kenya-based lodges and camps. The scheme has three successive levels, including Bronze, Silver and Gold. These ratings work to guarantee that the classified products are ecologically and socially responsible and can help travelers make eco-friendly choices when planning their safaris in Africa.
